LUKE 23:49

But all those who knew him, including the women who had followed him from Galilee, stood at a distance, watching these things. - Luke 23:49

So the people who were beating their breasts were not Your followers.  Impressive.

Your followers were standing far away - maybe scared, maybe too much too handle, maybe kept there by guards.  But, it's funny that Luke doesn't mention anything about them beating their breasts.  It's possible he just didn't think it was needed, or that we would all know that Your followers would be distraught.  But, it's also possible it didn't happen.  It's also possible that even Your followers were so concerned about what might happen to them that they weren't repentant.  It is possible that the ones who were understanding who You were for the first time were more disturbed than those who had been with You for years.

I only say that because I can see it in my own life.  I got sort of "used to it."  You've become more "usual" than "awesome", more "everyday" than "historic", more "friend" than "savior."  I kind of get it, and I king of think - unimpressive!
